Sun without the chaos.
Package from £57 · flight + stay from LutonAlicante gets overshadowed by Barcelona and undercut by Benidorm. It shouldn't. The old town is genuinely good, the beach is central and clean, and prices for food and accommodation are among the lowest of any Spanish city on the coast. Ryanair flies direct from Luton in just over two hours — making it one of the most accessible budget destinations in southern Europe.

Alicante–Elche Airport (ALC) is 12km from the city centre. The TRAM line connects the airport directly to the city centre in around 25 minutes for under £2 — one of the easiest airport transfers in Spain. Taxis take about 15 minutes and cost around £12–15. The bus (C-6) takes longer but costs under £1.
Ryanair operates multiple daily departures from London Luton (LTN), with flight times of around 2h10. Flights are frequent enough that you can usually find reasonable fares outside peak periods without booking very far in advance.
The clifftop castle dominates the city and offers free entry on foot via the hillside path. The views over the bay are genuinely worth the climb.
The narrow streets around the castle base are full of good tapas bars, local wine, and a relaxed atmosphere that feels nothing like the resort strip to the south.
The central city beach is cleaner than you'd expect for a city beach, and it's a 10-minute walk from the old town. Not the best beach in the region, but convenient.
One of the best regional archaeology museums in Spain, and genuinely interesting even if that's not usually your thing. Free on Sundays.
The iconic mosaic promenade along the marina is perfect for an evening walk. The marble wave pattern is made of 6.6 million tiles.
